These two operators are not licenced in the Netherlands. However, KSA found out that players from the country could register accounts on their network of gambling sites and start gambling activities. To this end, the gambling watchdog slapped them with corrective sanctions to prevent them from continuing with their activities.
According to a press statement released by KSA, it is prohibited for providers of games of chance that do not have an operating licence from the body to make their websites accessible to citizens of the country. The body also required the operators to take steps to ensure that their sites were not accessible from the Netherlands.
LCS and MKC Were Fined in September
KSA fined the LCS brand for illegally making available online gambling games to the consumers of the Netherlands through some of its gaming sites. The body argued that the operator ought to have ensured that none of the sites were accessible to Dutch IP addresses. Currently, the platform runs several gaming sites, including SvenPlay, Wallacebet, Lapilanders, and Nucelonbet Casino.
In the notice, the gambling watchdog summoned the operator and slapped them with a €55,000 a week fine from the date of the notice until they resolved the issue. The maximum penalty was supposed to be €165,000. However, weeks later, the operator had not taken any corrective action.
Two days after serving the LCS with the notice, the watchdog sought to serve MKC with a similar order. It argued that MKC was also operating illegally like LCS. However, MKC received a lower penalty of €28,000 per week, an amount that could grow to a maximum of €84,000.
The Netherlands Has Restrictive Gambling Laws
The Netherlands is one of the European countries that have restrictive rules on gambling. Citizens of the country are not allowed to gamble on offline gaming sites. The KSA is also always checking different platforms to ascertain if players from the country can access the gaming sites. This was the case for the LCS and MKC.
MKC and LCS are licenced in Malta and are authorised to serve any country that recognises the license. However, the Netherlands does not have any agreements with the Malta Gaming Authority.
